Takayama Bamboo Whisk (Chasen)

Discover the craftsmanship of the Takayama whisk – a handmade matcha chasen from Nara, Japan, with over 500 years of tradition. The bamboo whisk (chasen) is an essential tool for preparing authentic matcha tea.

It is designed to be used in combination with a matcha bowl, bamboo spoon, and whisk holder (not included). This handcrafted whisk features 100 fine prongs and a highly flexible structure, allowing you to create a smooth, creamy, and frothy matcha.

How to use

Whisk 1 gram of matcha with 60 ml of water (80 °C) for up to 15 seconds using quick W-shaped movements. Avoid touching the bottom of the bowl. Add a small amount of warm water afterwards if desired.

Cleaning:

  • Rinse with warm water before and after use (no soap, no hot water)
  • Not dishwasher safe
  • Optional: let dry on a matcha whisk holder
